Cortical-surface-based brain imaging
A central goal of this project is to develop and validate a novel surface-based coordinate system for the cerebral cortex.
Specifically, our aims are to (1) further automate and optimize existing cortical surface reconstruction software; (2) develop an automated method for specifying a (2-D) coordinate system for the cortical surface, by non-rigidly aligning each individual subject's surface based on the average folding pattern in a database of individual subjects; (3) validate this coordinate system, using both anatomical and functional data; and (4) implement a cross-platform release procedure which will allow us to disseminate the surface reconstruction/coordinate system software to the general brain mapping and neuroscience communities.
