Anatomic morphologic analysis of MR brain images
The goal of this grant is to develop tools and methods for the precise quantitative analysis of brain morphology in health and disease.
The goal of this grant is to continue to develop tools and methods for the precise quantitative analysis of brain morphology in health and disease, and to disseminate the tools and results of the application of these tools to the neuroscience community as a whole. Specifically, we will 1) expand upon our previously developed treatment of time-domain (functional MRI) and tensor-valued (diffusion-weighted MRI) data, concentrating on clinical applications (including stroke, tumor, Huntington s Disease and Alzheimer s Disease) of segmentation and morphological quantification using our unified neuroanatomic segmentation framework; 2) develop and optimize our shape and shape change metrics in normal subjects and pathological patient populations, focusing on robust analysis of population shape in multidimensional parameter spaces; and 3) disseminate segmentation tools and comparison methods, as well as the results of image segmentation and volumetric analysis, to the community as a whole using the World Wide Web. The overarching themes that pervade this approach are: i) a common data analytic framework that can be invoked to bridge processing of various morphological characteristics using virtually all classes of image data; ii) clinical and research applications that guide the design and implementation of image analysis tools; iii) aggressive comparison and integration of tools developed as part of the Human Brain Project; and iv) the results of neuroanatomic studies must be relateable across sites in order to advance our collective understanding of the ultimate goal of How the brain works?
